TRIBUTE TO BILL BERGMAN, SR.

Bill-Bergman-Keystone-Colorado-Spotsurfer

At SpotSurfer, we’re all about matching day skiers with parking spaces in ski resorts and towns. But we’re about communities even more. We are lucky to operate in incredible resort towns like Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, and many others. And we know communities power these resorts and towns. One community we love is Keystone. Part of the Vail Resorts family, Keystone has a great town … and an even better mountain with incredible, world-class terrain.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Bergman, Sr. on December 11th.  Bill was a pioneer in the ski industry … and he is credited with making Keystone a reality … and the magical place it has grown to be for visitors from across the globe.

Facing long odds and skeptical people back in 1970, Bill was an innovator … and a risk taker. We are sure Bill had doubts here and there about starting a brand new mountain … but he persevered! In 1970, Keystone’s first chair, Chair 1, was christened by Bill’s wife, Jane, and began spinning, whisking delighted skiers up this incredible mountain for the first time. Without Bill, and his vision and determination, Keystone may have never been. He was a force.

Later in his long, 99-year life, he stayed involved in many community ventures … and was the first to sign the petition leading the way for Keystone to become its own, official town. A long life indeed … with so much good. And, yes, he was an avid golfer to boot!

At SpotSurfer, we believe community is #1. And our communities are filled with amazing people doing incredible work. So, we pause to say, “Thank you, Bill … and your family for all you did for Keystone, for Colorado, and the ski (and golf!) worlds!”

Warmly –
